AICCIFL - African ICT Criminal Intelligence, Forensics and Litigation SIG is designed to provide state-of-the-art knowledge around Forensic investigation of ICT-related crime. ICT Crimes have traditionally been seen as the problems of the western world; however everyone is at risk and those who are not are soon going to be. The trends in hitherto developing nations is increasing opening up in the communication sector; this will bring numerous opportunities but also pose challenges like ICT– crime. The U.S secret service has estimated the cost of cyber fraud at around U.S$ 2.5 billion; one reason for these high levels of computer crimes is that personal computers are common and the population of users is large. Opportunity is great and opportunity makes a thief. Topics covered in the SIG include:

Understanding Computer Security Systems
Investigating systems to determine whether anything illegal has been done
The scientific method
Defeating countermeasures against forensic experts
Determining the level of expertise of a supposed criminal
Determining legal authority to seize, image, and examine each device
Identifying sources of evidence
Investigation of storage devices
Rules of evidence handling
Sequence of examination
Analyzing evidence
Preservation of evidence
Rules of Evidence
Presenting the findings

ICT is a dynamic and growing field and no single person can claim to be an absolute authority in any aspect; in other words we are all novices, learners as we practice the art and science of ICT investigation. Please note that this is a closed SIG and you need to apply for membership. Also, while much of the information here is open, there are also other topics that are provate and available only to SIG members.

The African ICT Criminal Intelligence, Forensics and Litigation SIG is based on the work of KMAfrica KnowledgeHub member Davies Kelmen from Nairobi who is also the SIG manager.

The KM & Communications SIG looks at how to manage and 'tell the story' in powerful, memorable ways. Here we look at communicating using various media to diverse audiences in order to stimulate appropriate action and leave powerful memories. This is an important aspect of Knowledge work as it involves 'telling the story' in communities and organisations. Thus this SIG is of interest to NGOs, community organisations as well as corporates in Africa. Particularly we look at:

Media of all kinds including social media & integrative technologies
Community animation using technology
Graphic design in communication
Ideas and models from media theory
Managing the story and techniques of Grand Narrative construction and other forms of oranisational storytelling
Promoting media literacy and critical thinking about all forms of media
Examples from diverse KM programmes
Storytelling for KM including PR & 'Spin'
Projects around stimulating the practice of KM in the lives of people and organisations
A project around how Africa's youth can be stimulated to share and create appropriate knowledge and future visions

There is a wealth of know-how in Africa about how conflict and change can be mediated and managed in creative ways to the benefit of all. The KM, Conflict & Change SIG provides a space to discuss approaches to Conflict Management, Change Management and the management of post-conflict scenarios, particularly in an African context. Here we combine cutting-edge knowledge with ancient approaches and stories that can be usefully applied in a wide range of situations. In addition to exploring some unusual and very African approaches, we also look at continental efforts by NEPAD, the UN and the AU to ameliorate conflict.

Tourism Knowledge SIG

Zulu culture, language & traditions

This SIG looks at the Zulu language and its ancient roots as a key to opening its deeper meanings about African cosmology. We look at words, concepts and stories, their derivation as well as concepts which also exist in other Afican languages.
