Nearly 400 years ago Galileo Galilei brought to light the work of Nicholas Copernicus which sought to explain the facts of day and night on the movements of the earth rather than the sun. The idea was largely dismissed and the proponents punished. When it was first suggested that the planet's continents were first together but got separated through million of years, the idea was rubbished until about 42 years later when mid oceanic ridges were discovered.

Today there is sufficient evidence showing that the sun is not the primary source of warmth on earth but few people would care to listen. We are making efforts to mitigate climate change but want to pretend that climate change is a recent phenomenon yet ice ages and desertification have occurred before humans existed on earth. The argument is narrowed down to the relationship between greenhouse gases and global temperature variations where it is presumed the former causes the latter when in reality the former is a symptom of the latter. A lot of resources and time are being wasted on irrelevant issues when the earth is sending serious signals that we could be headed for an ice age.

Looking at the pattern of volcanic eruptions since December 2009 to date and the weather patterns experienced over similar period, it is better to look at the issues from a wider perspective and appreciate that the earth has its own heat which is responsible for its warming and that our efforts towards mitigating climate change should focus on the heat inside the earth.
